There will be NO morning services on Sunday 12th March as we have our church weekend away.
Taize WILL be taking place on Sunday 12th March at 6.30 pm.
During this time of Lent, we are closing our house groups and meeting together on a Wednesday evening until 5th April 7.30 – 9 pm at church and follow the New Wine DVD based course ‘The Road to Maturity’ by Mary Pytches.
The six week course looks at how we can all grow into greater maturity in Christ (Ephesians 4.11-13).
‘True maturity is becoming like Jesus.
As Christians we are all on the road to maturity, but sometimes
the journey is made harder by unresolved issues from the past which
block our path. This course is designed to uncover what these might be,
and to implement their removal so that we may continue along the
road unhindered by the past.’
On Saturday 4th December between 4 and 6 pm we had Messy Christmas at St Barnabas. It was cold outside, but warm and welcoming inside! Lots of parents and their children came to make messy crafts in preparation for Christmas and listen to the Christmas story and sing some songs together.
The crafts people made included Christmas cards, tree decorations, paper aeroplanes, biscuit decorations, ‘time’ gifts, and lots more.
After the celebration time, we all sat down and shared a hot meal together before going home.
Our next Messy Church is Saturday 1st April 4 – 6 pm. We look forward to seeing you.
In November, a group from St Barnabas Church stayed in the Peak Centre in the beautiful village of Edale for a church weekend away. Outside it was cold snowy, but inside the centre it was warm and welcoming.
We stayed from Friday evening to Sunday late morning and shared activities and tasks. The group was divided in to teams and each team took responsibility of preparing a meal, washing up and clearing away.
We all ate together and worshipped together which enabled us to get to know each other better and enjoy friendship and fellowship.
There was plenty to do over the weekend outside our worship times together, including a walk up Kinder Scout (or part way!), learning some basic karate moves, exploring the village on a night walk or just sitting enjoying the warmth of the open fire!
It was a wonderful weekend; thanks to Louise and Alan Griggs for organising it and we all look forward to the next one!

Messy Harvest in October was a fun time for families. There were lots of crafts to get involved with including model making, planting bulbs, vegetable printing, decorating biscuits and making scarecrow spoons!
The celebration time was great as we learnt a new harvest song and thanked God for all he provides for us, and this was then followed by a sit down meal together.
We look forward to seeing you in December for fun at Messy Christmas!
