Our Harvest service is on Sunday 19th September at 10.30 am and is for all ages – old and young!
Our Harvest giving is once again going to Derby City Mission’s food bank. Please click on the link below to see what items they need and we ask that you bring any of these items with you to the service on 19th September.
Please read the paragraph below from Derby City Mission:
‘As you might imagine, over the last year our food bank has been in high demand with over 6,000 people fed through our food parcels in the last year. We have also seen a sharp increase in new people contacting us for help with their finances. The government has forecast that there will be a 60% increase in personal debt because of the pandemic and we are preparing to help people when this ‘tsunami of debt’ hits. We have just taken on a second Debt & Benefits Adviser to strengthen the team and increase capacity, which has been overstretched for some time, with only one full-time and one volunteer part-time adviser supporting over 200 active clients. Please pray for the Poverty Prevention team, which includes Jubilee, the Basics Bank, our Befriending Scheme, supporting those struggling with poor physical and mental health or low self-esteem, and our Community Shop and café which is due to open in October. The Community Shop will give people a chance to choose what they want in their food parcel rather than having a prepacked parcel. We hope this will give people more dignity, help cater for dietary and cultural needs and give us opportunity to offer support with menu planning, healthy eating, budgeting and cooking skills.’
